When I was a wee babe, I watched the movie A Kid in King Arthur's Court, where a modern teenager goes back "in time" and has all sorts of shenanigans as a result. Don't ask me why, but the storyline engaged my brain for years. Finally, back in 2020, someone important to me listened to me discuss this time travel book I've always wanted to write.
She looked at me and said, "I'd read it! You should write it!"
So I did.
The Singularity Series follows Saira Andromeda, a 26yo Particle Physicist who, in cahoots with her scientist father, discovers the technology for time travel. Just in time, too, because an asteroid is hurtling toward Earth.
Except there aren't nearly enough supplies to save her entire family. Saira and her father head out on separate journeys to find a parallel universe that's suitable for their family. Once they return home, they'll have enough time and information to save everyone they love.
If only it were that simple, eh? This series didn't quite turn out how I imagined my story for years, but it's an excellent exploration in self-development, choosing our destinies, and what it means to make hard choices.
Saira Andromeda might have discovered the key to time travel, but the timing couldn't be worse. On one hand, she and her father have just enough supplies to travel through parallel universes. Unfortunately, there isn't time to save her family from being destroyed by an oncoming asteroid.
Like any intrepid scientist, Saira's willing to embark into the unknown to find a haven for her family's escape. Loaded with survival gear, a sense of curiosity, and a drive to collect samples, nothing stands in Saira's way of saving her family. Except for everything that keeps trying to eat her. She barely used a treadmill between experiments in the lab — now she's running for her life. This is not what she signed up for.
When a black wolf saves her from a bear attack, Saira's intrigued to discover she's landed in a matriarchal shifter society run by Kalliope, the lordess of Illorna. Hoping this might be a safe place for her family, Saira immerses herself in the new world and the unexpected romance between the commanding lordess and her irreverent consort, Legend.
Saira may have all the time in the world, but the clock is ticking. Her family will remain dead if she can't find the answers she's looking for. Unfortunately, she's less welcome in this world than expected. Thrust into unexpected politics and shifter conflict, Saira must decide whether her heart or her family is more important.
And it may turn out to be the hardest decision of her life.
Leaving Ilorna was the second hardest thing Saira Andromeda's ever done ... Aside from leaving her family to die, of course.
Unfortunately, things are about to get infinitely more complicated. Things won't stop trying to eat her, including but not limited to dinosaurs, creatures without names, and even a dragaen eyes her with hungry interest.
Each parallel universe tears at her sanity until it feels like there's nothing left to bring home. Who will she be when it's all said and done? What will she want? Better yet — will she ever see the loves of her life ever again?
Only time will tell.
